Carmina Lopez-32 was a fifth-grade teacher at Sunnyslope Elementary School in Palm City, California. In January, 2009, she was detained on accuses of continuing a four-year affair with a ex- student, which started when he was 11 and she was 28. The suspected affair first came to light when the boy took psychological counseling through Child Protective Services. While Lopez alleges the boy is mentally upset, local police have said the evidence goes far beyond “he said, she said,” and that multiple witnesses will back up the boy’s assert. Lopez appeared in a pre-trial hearing in March, 2009, during which the boy confirmed that Lopez would buy gifts for him, but would force him having sexual intercourse with her before he could receive the gifts. As of this writing, Lopez is still awaiting trial.
